Small Bronze c.1890 Bust of Jesus Christ on wooden stand by Bouasse-Jeune of Paris, c.1890

A very special little Antique bronze bust of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, cast by the leading French Foundry Bouasse-Jeune in Paris at the end of the nineteenth century. We were lucky enough to find this lovely item while scouring the Brocantes and antique shops in Nice, France. The dealer was quite reluctant to sell it as he had only recently acquired it from the estate of a local dignitary, and had planned to add it to his private collection. Fortunately for us all, we were able to persuade him that our customers needed it more than he did.

The bust is cast in solid bronze with the foundry stamp on the back. It is mounted on a rounded pedestal of wood that has been ebonised but shows many years of wear. The bust itself is very detailed down to the curling hair of the beard and the woven crown of thorns. This foundry produced many crucifixes however we have only seen this one single bust of Jesus Christ. There is a possibility that this may have started life as a wax seal and then at some point given the stand instead. The overall. height is only 3-1/4" or 8.5cm, and the width is no greater than 1-3/4" or 4cm. The bust weighs 143 grammes without any packaging. This would make a very special gift.

A Superb example of a Dieppe School Carved Corpus on a walnut Crucifix. c1870 Dieppe Crucifix

An extremely rare and beautiful crucifix from the Dieppe area of France made in the 1870s. The pale body of Christ, or Corpus Christi, is carved in intricate detail in three pieces and laid on a magnificent crucifix of burr walnut veneered hardwood. This superb piece of work was crafted by a French Dieppe Craftsman at the end of the nineteenth century.  Having stood the test of time it is available in fantastic condition today; the superb quality of the item is reflected in the price.

The wooden cross is 13.75" high x 7.25" wide x 0.4" deep...355 x 183 x 11mm

The Corpus is 6.5" high x 5" wide x 1.25" deep....162 x 123 x 30mm

Dieppe in France was the region where the very best sculptors worked at the end of the nineteenth century and this is apparent in the delicacy of the hand working and cutting of the figure. The detailing on the figure of Christ is superb and the cross is fashioned in four parts, mitred together in a true, age old craft fashion. This is easily one of the finest examples of this kind of work that we have seen. Above the head of Christ is a small plaque bearing the symbol 'INRI' for Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Real Huge Vintage Nautical Signal Flags from a French Yacht Club

Rarely seen in the marketplace. We have purchased a hoard of no-longer-used vintage maritime flags from a French Yacht Club situated on one of the coastal islands. They have been produced all over the world. Here we have 1-0, A-Z and substitutes in Nautical Message Ships Flags. 

They are fantastic large sized versions that not only would look brilliant at the top of a flagpole - but equally as good on an interior wall used as wall art. Games Rooms, Club Houses, Locker Rooms - the possibilities are endless.

Antique French Metamorphic Church Candelabra

This is an amazingly well engineered metamorphic Church Candelabra. It can be used as a single stick with the side arms folded down or as a five-candle unit by adjusting two screws at the rear. The arms can be used at an angle or in the horizontal position. The main column is hexagonal and in two pieces that can be raised and lowered with the use of a locking screw to the rear of the stick. A piece of serious, solid engineering in a design that is almost geometric yet very classical. We have listed the maximum dimensions with the height and arms extended to their fullest.

The arms have a simple gothic form, the decorative roundels beneath each candle holder have four red quadrants each - with the central one being the largest.  It came from a (now closed) local church in France, when we lived there, and would make a great table centre or just on a side or console table. We have not cleaned it and you can see from the photos it still shows signs of the old wax from previous use. This holder is in a very unusual design and extremely collectable; a real statement piece.
